Intentionally Untitled: whenever someone says that arranged marriages never work
I tell them what my mother’s favorite day was. It was her wedding day, and she considers my father her best friend and lover and she never regrets her parents finding her a husband.
My best friend’s parents had an arranged…
Positive anecdotes make institutionalized subversion of women totally okay!
No, they just mean that you can’t paint an entire institution in one color and expect it to be an accurate representation of that institution.
Which is what the OP did from the other side. We kinda just made the same point.
I’m really confused where you stand on the matter now.
There are good stories and there are bad stories, and both can be used to shed light on the issue from either side. You’re telling me I shouldn’t shit on arranged marriage because a couple of people’s mothers learned to love their fathers…awesome. I’m more interested in the implications of this cultural tool, which is used to perpetuate a patriarchy within those societies. But the OP apparently doesn’t need saving from my Western ass, so who am I to speak?
I have shit to do today; I’m getting off of tumblr now.
The matter here isn’t about love, it’s about personal freedom and LIBERTY. Arranged marriages are incompatible with these ideals and are thus OBJECTIVELY WRONG. Coercing or forcing someone into a contract or arrangement is the epitome of denying personal freedoms that should be enjoyed by every human.
oh please western feminist tell me more about the concept of liberty I’m sure I don’t understand it being a poor brown woman
why can’t I have the personal freedom and liberty to choose an arranged marriage?
Just because it’s not the choice you would like to make doesn’t mean that it isn’t a choice other women wouldn’t make.
Many people elect to have an arranged marriage. I understand that it might be hard to understand that, but just because you don’t understand it doesn’t mean it is wrong.
